{"id":3685,"date":"2013-02-07T06:00:32","date_gmt":"2013-02-07T06:00:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/esc-sec.ca\/wp\/2013\/02\/07\/esc-members-visit-your-headquarters\/"},"modified":"2019-11-14T21:44:30","modified_gmt":"2019-11-14T21:44:30","slug":"esc-members-visit-your-headquarters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/esc-sec.ca\/fr\/2013\/02\/07\/esc-members-visit-your-headquarters\/","title":{"rendered":"ESC members: visit your headquarters!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Article by <a href=\"http:\/\/arthropodecology.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dr. Chris Buddle<\/a>, Professor at the McGill University.<\/p>\n<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_879\" style=\"width: 235px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/escsecblog.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/01\/esc-393-winston-ave-fixed.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-879\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-879\" alt=\"The Entomological Society of Canada's home of operations in Ottawa, Ontario.\" src=\"http:\/\/escsecblog.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/01\/esc-393-winston-ave-fixed.jpg?w=225\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-879\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Entomological Society of Canada&rsquo;s home of operations in Ottawa, Ontario.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I was in Ottawa back in December, and found a bit of time to visit the Entomological Society of Canada&rsquo;s headquarters, on Winston Avenue.\u00a0\u00a0It was a real treat &#8211; our office manager (Derna Lisi) is always thrilled to have visitors, and will make you a lovely cup of coffee!\u00a0\u00a0The office is where memberships get processed, general queries from members get answered, and where printing, mailing and processing paperwork gets done.\u00a0\u00a0It&rsquo;s also a place where you can browse through ALL the volumes of\u00a0<i>The Canadian Entomologist<\/i>.\u00a0\u00a0The office has seven copies of all TCE issues, well-organized, and fully accessible.\u00a0\u00a0Although the journal is electronic now, it sure is nice to hold the Volume 1, Issue 1, in your hands.\u00a0\u00a0That is a lot of history!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0It is also somewhat comforting to know that hard copies exist, and that they are well cared for.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_881\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/escsecblog.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/01\/tce-11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-881\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-881\" alt=\"The Canadian Entomologist 1(1) - 1868\" src=\"http:\/\/escsecblog.files.wordpress.com\/2013\/01\/tce-11.jpg?w=300\" width=\"300\" height=\"294\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-881\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Canadian Entomologist 1(1) &#8211; 1868<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Although I visit Ottawa with some frequency, I always seemed to find reasons not to visit the ESC headquarters.\u00a0\u00a0That was a mistake.\u00a0\u00a0It was a real pleasure to meet Derna, see the operations, and realize that our society has a brick-and-mortar face to it.
