Gwylim Blackburn and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfu.ca\/gries-lab\/current_lab_members\/samantha_vibert.html\">Samantha Vibert<\/a> are old hands at spider observations at this site, Gwilym had studied <em>Habronattus americanus<\/em> and Samantha \u00a0had studied Hobo Spiders. <a href=\"www.spiderbytes.org\">Catherine Scott<\/a> (who studies black widows) and <a href=\"http:\/\/evansresearch.wordpress.com\/\">Sam Evans<\/a> (a recent recruit to Wayne Maddison&rsquo;s lab) came along as well. \u00a0This was a Toyota Tercel loaded down with spider talent!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1341\" style=\"width: 570px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/escsecblog.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/05\/daisy.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1341\" class=\"wp-image-1341 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/escsecblog.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/05\/daisy.jpg?w=560\" alt=\"daisy\" width=\"560\" height=\"420\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1341\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Daisy did not ask for this in her old age, but performed admirably nonetheless.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1344\" style=\"width: 570px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/escsecblog.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/05\/img_5362.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1344\" class=\"wp-image-1344 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/escsecblog.files.wordpress.com\/2014\/05\/img_5362.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_5362\" width=\"560\" height=\"420\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1344\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">We arrived shortly after 7 pm, and despite the late hour, we found a few jumping spiders, although <em>Habronattus americanus<\/em> was already in bed. The location is the Skeleton Creek Valley, located just above Lake Hazen on northern Ellesmere Island, and you can see Lake Hazen in the background.   Vegetation is particularly lush in these creek valleys, especially compared to surrounding tundra.
