{"id":3641,"date":"2014-06-23T13:12:02","date_gmt":"2014-06-23T13:12:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/esc-sec.ca\/wp\/2014\/06\/23\/update-from-the-canadian-entomologist-editorial-board\/"},"modified":"2019-11-14T21:42:49","modified_gmt":"2019-11-14T21:42:49","slug":"update-from-the-canadian-entomologist-editorial-board","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/esc-sec.ca\/fr\/2014\/06\/23\/update-from-the-canadian-entomologist-editorial-board\/","title":{"rendered":"Update from The Canadian Entomologist Editorial Board"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Editorial Board of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.esc-sec.ca\/journal.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>The Canadian Entomologist (TCE)<\/em><\/a> welcomes the comments that we receive from readers and authors.\u00a0 We take these comments seriously and implement appropriate changes when possible.\u00a0 We are pleased to announce three such changes that will further improve the speed, quality and flexibility of the service provided by <em>TCE<\/em>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Simplified submission requirement.<\/strong>\u00a0 Authors previously were required to submit papers with abstracts in both French and in English.\u00a0 Although they can still do so, authors now need only submit an abstract in the language of the submitted paper; i.e., French or English.\u00a0 This change eliminates delays associated with having abstracts translated, which will accelerate manuscript publication.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>New open access option.<\/strong>\u00a0 Although <em>TCE<\/em> has no page charges, there has always been a subscription fee.\u00a0 As of 2014, authors now have the option of paying a one-time open access (OA) fee.\u00a0 Payment of the OA fee makes articles freely available as soon as they are published online to anyone with internet access.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>More content.<\/strong>\u00a0 Elimination of page charges has increased submissions to the journal, with a consequence increase in the number of papers being accepted for publication.\u00a0 In response, <em>TCE <\/em>is expanding its content by 10%.\u00a0 This equates to an annual increase of 72 pages, or approximately 1-2 additional papers per issue.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition to the above changes, there are several other items that may be of interest.\u00a0 \u2018Instructions to Authors\u2019 were revised in March of this year.\u00a0 Revisions include instructions for the submission of \u2018Supplementary Material\u2019 and a link to third-party services that specialize in language editing.<\/p>\n<p>You also may wish to read \u201cOpen access, predatory publishers, <em>The Canadian Entomologist<\/em>, and you\u201d.\u00a0 This article appears in the <a href=\"http:\/\/esc-sec.ca\/bulletin\/bulletin_sep_2013.pdf#page=33\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bulletin of the ESC (Sept. 2013, p. 131)<\/a>, and examines issues that should be interest to anyone publishing in scientific journals.<\/p>\n<p>In closing, we note that Dr. Chris Buddle (McGill University, Montreal, QC) will be completing his tenure as Editor-in-Chief this fall.\u00a0 Dr. Kevin Floate (Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Lethbridge, AB) is the incoming Editor-in-Chief.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We thank you, the authors and readers, for making <em>TCE<\/em> an ongoing success.<\/p>\n<p>Chris Buddle<\/p>\n<p>Kevin Floate<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Editorial Board of The Canadian Entomologist (TCE) welcomes the comments that we receive from readers and authors.\u00a0 We take these comments seriously and implement appropriate changes when possible.\u00a0 We are pleased to announce three such changes that will further improve the speed, quality and flexibility of the service provided by TCE.
