' class='av-special-heading av-special-heading-h2    avia-builder-el-4  el_after_av_heading  el_before_av_textblock  '><h2 class='av-special-heading-tag '  itemprop=\"headline\"  >Histoire de la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 d\u2019entomologie du Canada <\/h2><div class='special-heading-border'><div class='special-heading-inner-border' ><\/div><\/div><\/div><br \/>\n<section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Fond\u00e9e \u00e0 Toronto le 16 avril 1863, la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 d\u2019entomologie du Canada \u00e9tait ouverte \u00e0 \u00ab\u00a0tous les \u00e9tudiants et amoureux de l\u2019entomologie\u00a0\u00bb. Les premiers dirigeants \u00e9taient Prof. H. Croft, pr\u00e9sident; W. Saunders, secr\u00e9taire-tr\u00e9sorier; et R\u00e9v. J. Hubbert, conservateur. L\u2019organisation a prosp\u00e9r\u00e9 alors que les collectionneurs d\u2019insectes int\u00e9ress\u00e9s pr\u00e9sentaient leurs acquisitions lors des r\u00e9unions, discutaient de l\u2019histoire naturelle de leurs esp\u00e8ces pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9es, \u00e9changeaient des sp\u00e9cimens, d\u00e9crivaient et nommaient de nouvelles esp\u00e8ces, et d\u00e9butaient un mus\u00e9e de collections d\u2019insectes canadiens.<\/p>\n<p>En 1871, devant l\u2019insistance du gouvernement de l\u2019Ontario qui a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 fournir des fonds \u00e0 la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9, son nom a chang\u00e9 pour la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 d\u2019entomologie de l\u2019Ontario. Malgr\u00e9 ce changement, la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 est demeur\u00e9e le point focal pour l\u2019entomologie dans tout le Canada, incluant la publication de <em><u>The Canadian Entomologist<\/u><\/em>\u00a0qui est la revue d\u2019entomologie actuellement publi\u00e9e la plus vieille au Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Suite \u00e0 la 2<sup>e<\/sup> guerre mondiale, il y a eu une augmentation rapide du nombre d\u2019entomologistes professionnels au pays, particuli\u00e8rement dans les laboratoires gouvernementaux f\u00e9d\u00e9raux, et il a rapidement \u00e9t\u00e9 reconnu que leurs besoins seraient mieux servis par une \u00ab\u00a0nouvelle\u00a0\u00bb soci\u00e9t\u00e9 nationale sans biais r\u00e9gional implicite. Ainsi, le 3 novembre 1950, la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 d\u2019entomologie du Canada, telle qu\u2019elle est connue aujourd\u2019hui, a \u00e9t\u00e9 fond\u00e9e. Les dirigeants fondateurs \u00e9taient A. Ross, pr\u00e9sident; A.W. Baker, vice-pr\u00e9sident; W.R. Thompson, \u00e9diteur; R.H. Wigmore, secr\u00e9taire; A.B. Baird, tr\u00e9sorier; et sept administrateurs.<\/p>\n<p>La responsabilit\u00e9 de la publication de <em>The Canadian Entomologist<\/em>\u00a0a imm\u00e9diatement \u00e9t\u00e9 transf\u00e9r\u00e9e au nouveau groupe national. De plus, en 1955, la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 a commenc\u00e9 la publication d\u2019une s\u00e9rie de <em><u>M\u00e9moires<\/u><\/em>, pr\u00e9sentant principalement des \u00e9tudes en syst\u00e9matique. Bien que la publication des <em>M\u00e9moires<\/em> ait cess\u00e9 en 1997, apr\u00e8s 171 num\u00e9ros, ils sont toujours recherch\u00e9s par les taxonomistes. Le r\u00f4le des <em>M\u00e9moires<\/em> a maintenant \u00e9t\u00e9 repris, dans une certaine mesure, par la revue en ligne <em><u>Journal of Arthropod Identification<\/u><\/em>, \u00e9galement publi\u00e9e par la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>La Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 a \u00e9galement eu un r\u00f4le pivot dans la fondation de la <u>Commission biologique du Canada<\/u> (CBC) en 1977. Initialement d\u00e9velopp\u00e9e \u00e0 partir d\u2019une s\u00e9rie de contrats entre la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 et le Minist\u00e8re f\u00e9d\u00e9ral d\u2019approvisionnements et services, la CBC est devenue fermement \u00e9tablie en 1980 au Mus\u00e9e national des sciences naturelles (maintenant le Mus\u00e9e canadien de la nature) sous un partenariat continuel avec la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9. En 2009, la CBC est devenue une organisation \u00e0 but non lucratif en anticipation au soutien financier r\u00e9duit du Mus\u00e9e canadien de la nature. Les liens de la CBC avec la SEC demeurent tr\u00e8s importants alors que les travaux actuels et futurs de la CBC auront une forte composante entomologique.<\/p>\n<p>Suite \u00e0 un d\u00e9clin persistent dans le niveau de soutien \u00e0 la recherche dans les laboratoires f\u00e9d\u00e9raux depuis le d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 1970, la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 est devenue plus active dans sa publication de m\u00e9moires, livres verts, etc., et ses interactions avec le gouvernement. Plusieurs de ses expos\u00e9s de position ont \u00e9t\u00e9 relies dans le Bulletin trimestriel de la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9, le <em><u>Bulletin de la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 d\u2019entomologie du Canada<\/u><\/em>, dont la publication a d\u00e9but\u00e9 en 1969.<\/p>\n<p>La Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 travaille \u00e9troitement avec les sept soci\u00e9t\u00e9s entomologiques r\u00e9gionales du Canada, l\u2019une d\u2019elles servant d\u2019h\u00f4te pour la <u>r\u00e9union annuelle<\/u> de la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9, un arrangement qui facilite les discussions et les \u00e9changes d\u2019id\u00e9es entre entomologistes de tout le pays. L\u2019existence d\u2019une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 nationale a \u00e9galement permis au Canada de servir de pays h\u00f4te pour la r\u00e9union quadriennale mondiale d\u2019entomologistes, le Congr\u00e8s international d\u2019entomologie (Montr\u00e9al, 1956;
